The Beginning

From an early age Roula Karam was fascinated by the world of fashion & beauty and the industry as a whole, she has always been astonished with the magic of make-up. She believed makeup is a character extension. It is an indispensable accessory that completes the outfit and should be carefully applied to make balance with the occasion and the first impression you want to give. Having studied psychology she went deeper into her theory. She uses makeup as a tool to bring out the right personality trait for the right setting whether it is the innocence of the bride, or the sexiness of the party girl, or the seriousness of the business woman, all of which are present in one woman but come out at the right time and that is exactly what makeup should reflect. She considers the psychology of the exterior informing the interior is what makes it interesting. To Roula, each makeup requires a study: event, outfit and hair-do.

Being trained in Europe, the fresh and flawless "no-makeup makeup" became her message. She longs for the "I woke up like this" look. She believes makeup should not change the woman's features but rather enhance its best elements.
And she also followed this motto in permanent makeup and made sure whether it was permanent eyebrows, eye shadow or lipstick, it should be undetectable. Always aiming for naturality and simplicity, and making the "no-makeup makeup" her career signature.

History

Roula Karam started her journey with makeup at the age of 17 as the assistant of professional makeup artist Nazir Daccach.
The pressure of juggling both work and school was a small price to pay in the pursuit of her dream career.

She had her bachelor in psychology but knew it wasn't her calling so she travelled to France to study the art of makeup to follow her passion. Prior to becoming self-employed she worked as a freelance makeup artist. This was to broaden her skills and further enhance her experience and exposure within the industry. During this time she worked with MTV Lebanon on day-time shows and TV series, she also worked on TV commercials and billboard ads.

In 2011, she opened her own institute "Face Couture" in Downtown, Beirut. Since then she has worked with many photographers such as Roger Moukarzel, Sandra Chidiac, Jean-Claude Bejjani and Rodrigue Najarian.

Examples of her work have been featured in numerous national magazines including Noun, Special, Elle Oriental and had several makeup tutorials in the beauty section of Elle Arabia. She hosted the makeover segment of the morning show on OTV. Not to mention her infamous "Look-alike Campaign" that lead her to being on LBC in BBeirut.

She has completed several training courses in makeup and permanent makeup in Paris, Amsterdam and Estonia.

And in 2015 she was chosen to compete in Poland in a worldwide competition in permanent makeup and was selected among the top finalists.

Philosophy

I always praised the "NO MAKEUP-MAKEUP" and the reason behind this preference is never understanding why a gorgeous women would like to HIDE, MASK, or CHANGE her identity. For me, every face is inimitable in its own perspective. The definition of a natural makeup is the one that accentuates the best features of each beautiful complexion. 'FACE COUTURE' is an expression that best describes what we do. We create makeup combinations for every individual, adhering however to the natural unique identity true to every woman.
Nevertheless the younger the woman is, the more natural her choices should be.
Less is more.
